Position Available:

Title: Development Specialist
Location: Seattle, WA
Class: Full-time
Reports to: President / Artistic Director
Available: Immediately

THE ORGANIZATION:

Music of Remembrance (MOR) is a Seattle-based non-profit organization founded in 1998 to remember Holocaust musicians and their art through musical performances, educational activities, musical recordings, and commissions of new works. The MOR mission is not religious, nor is its scope limited to Jewish music. Although the Holocaust was an assault on Jewish people and culture, there were many other victims. We have commissioned and premiered important compositions addressing the Nazi persecution of non-Jewish political dissidents, gypsies and homosexuals.

Over its first ten years, MOR has become a firmly-established organization that is widely admired for its artistic excellence and for its commitment to a compelling mission. The organization's website www.musicofremembrance.org provides extensive information about MOR's musical and educational programming. The website also contains a link to the most recent Annual Report, which includes current and historical financials.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

MOR seeks a creative, energetic development professional to provide fundraising leadership as the organization marks its tenth anniversary. The Development Specialist will report to the President/Artistic Director, and also work closely with the board to expand the organization's donor base in the Seattle area, nationally and internationally. As MOR's first full-time development professional, this individual will have the opportunity to put fundraising strategies and methods in place that will carry the organization into the future. The selected candidate will plan, organize, and direct annual fund activities, including donor cultivation and communication with individual donors, foundations, corporations, and government agencies while overseeing special events. This person must be adept at recognizing new opportunities to expand the donor base, and at creating and implementing fundraising strategies. Working closely with a dynamic executive and a strongly-committed board, the Development Specialist will help to advance MOR's mission and to ensure that it is recognized for its unique accomplishments.

    • High energy and strong initiative in establishing systems as the organization's first full-time development professional.
    • Excellent spoken and written communication skills, and the ability to articulately embrace MOR's mission and programs.
    • Ability to work as part of a team and motivate others.
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to prioritize among multiple tasks.
