Cellist Kina Pak is the 2018 recipient of the David Tonkonogui Memorial Award. MOR established the award to honor our beloved friend and inspiring colleague, cellist David Tonkonogui (1958-2003). David, along with his wife Mara Finkelstein, was an important part of MOR beginning with our very first concerts in 1998. The award, made to one young musician every year, is our effort to recognize the musical and spiritual values that David expressed through his music and his life.
A student of Mara Finkelstein for many years, Kina has received numerous honors. In 2017 she was a finalist in the Seattle Young Artist Music Festival concerto competition and runner-up in the Bushnell Concerto Competition. Kina is currently the principal cellist of the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra.
Kina enjoys playing chamber music with friends, hosting rehearsals and musical parties in her living room. Kina enjoys the fellowship of musicianship, and we are happy to welcome her to the MOR family with her solo performance at the January 29th, 2018 Art From Ashes Concert.
