About Us

Music of Remembrance is a performing arts organization focused on human rights and social justice. Founded in 1998, it has evolved from an initial focus on Holocaust remembrance to honoring the resilience of all people excluded or persecuted for their faith, ethnicity, gender or sexuality.

MOR is admired around the world for its leadership in commissioning and premiering new works by leading composers, including chamber ensembles, song cycles, choral works, dance music, film scores, musical dramas, and full-length operas. Its online concerts, nine CDs, two opera DVDs, three documentary films, and many outreach programs have added to the impact experienced by live audiences. Its annual David Tonkonogui Memorial Award for Young Artists nurtures new generations of young musicians who seek to address human rights issues through their art.
